Head coaches are selected from applications. After head coach selections have been made, assistant coach applications are given to them to decide further. All members of the coaching staff must complete an application to make the background check process easier.
This person is the main volunteer responsible for the team. They are responsible for, with assistance, scheduling practices, fostering team relationships, coordinating coaches, parents and other volunteers, coaching the correct techniques and planning , and are solely responsible for ensuring team duties are met (concessions, chains, etc.). They are also the first point of contact for any incident with the team.
Depending on the type of season, the OCYFL allows head coaches to bring on a certain number of assistant coaches. These assistant coaches are to aide the head coach in the instruction of skills to the athletes. They are generally not given large, team-wide responsibilities, but are an intrical part of a football or cheer team and are usually responsible for a certain subgroup of athletes (defensive coordinator, line coach, etc.). They usually bring knowledge and follow the lead of the head coach in decision making.
The OCYFL relies on parents and community members as an all volunteer run organization. Everyone from the President to the newest board member, all coaches, and all team based volunteers give their time for free to promote the sports of football and cheer.
