About Spring Football

Spring football at the Oldham County Youth Football League was created for those athletes wishing to practice football skills in the offseason, stay in shape, or have something to do during the late winter and spring seasons. Other sports seem to compete more and more to be year-round sports. OCYFL encourages athletes to be versed in multiple sports (often called multi-sport athletes). However, we wanted to provide a program for those kids in which football is their "thing" or for those who are not interested in the typical spring sports.

We offer the following programs:

  • Girls-Only Flag football (6-11 years of age**) --> Click HERE to read more!
  • Mighty Mite Flag Football (4-5 years of age)
  • Peewee Flag Football (6-7 years of age)
  • Junior 7v7 (8-9 years of age)
  • Senior 7v7 (10-11 years of age**)

**Also accepting any twelve-year-old who turns twelve between May 1, 2025 and August 1, 2025, who must also be going into sixth grade

The spring season is meant to supplement work in the fall, or the regular tackle season, therefore age groups are set to mirror those for the succeeding fall. Ages for this spring will be based on August 1, 2025. This means that your athlete will be working, practicing, and playing with the same-aged athletes as they will be in the fall, if they wish to play in the regular season.

Don't let this scare you! If your child has not played football, now is a great time to try! Spring programs are very limited contact. The only equipment worn is a soft-padded helmet that families are asked to purchase. Targeted skills include agility, balance, and coordination, along with traditional football skills of passing, catching, spatial awareness, schemes, and a love for the game.

The fees for the 2025 spring football programs have been set at $90 (and covers the registration tax explained below). Families, as mentioned above, are asked to provide a soft-padded helmet.

*NEW AS OF JAN 1, 2023* : In the 2022 legislative session, a bill was passed that requires a set of additional services to be taxed (House Bill 8) which includes registrations for recreational sports. This was set to take place on January 1, 2023, therefore we have no other option than to add this amount to our registrations. For Spring 2025, the registration fee of $90 helps to cover this tax. Thank you for your understanding.
